'Specialist Village and Community Agents'

'Your Local Gateway to Information and Support'

Have you been affected by cancer?  In early 2009, as part of a pilot project on ways in which people living with and beyond cancer can be supported, the 3 Counties Cancer Network chose to work with Gloucestershire Village and Community Agents with funding from MacMillan Cancer Support. In 2013, this funding continued from the Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

The Village and Community Agents Service have trained a team of Specialist Agents to support cancer patients aged 18 and over and their families.  They assist with information, support, and practical help from diagnosis onwards.  Included in this are Specialist Agents who speak Gujurati, and Polish.  If cancer patients and their families have concerns about, for example, finance, employment, transport for NHS appointments, shopping, pet-care etc. then the Specialist Agents can help.  The priority is to make the best use of existing services and expertise; the Specialist Agents can make sure these links are made. Patients and carers can self-refer or a referral can be made by their Clinical Nurse Specialist. Plans are underway for more health and social care professionals to make referrals into the service.

‘They have a most pleasant manner and are very helpful, but in no way intrusive’

‘Very professional and supportive at all times’
‘Friendly supportive care’
